10 things to do in Guernsey on a date

January 13, 2022 in Travel - Micaela

Guernsey is an island in the English Channel, part of the Channel Island archipelago, off the coast of Normandy and has been a tourist destination since Victorian times. The island boasts a multitude of things to do, see and eat which makes it the perfect venue for a family holiday or even a weekend away with someone special.

Whether you’re celebrating an anniversary, taking the first holiday together or just wanted to explore the dating scene via a Guernsey dating site there are lots of great ways to spend together. Check out these 10 date ideas so you can get to know your beau and explore this beautiful island at the same time.

  1. Visit Castle Cornet & Museums – Castle Cornet is an 800 year old castle standing at the mouth of the St Peter Port harbour boasting five museums (The Story of Castle Cornet, 201 Squadron (RAF) Museum, Maritime Museum, Royal Guernsey Light Infantry Museum and Royal Guernsey Militia Museum) and four period gardens lovingly tended by the castle Keepers to explore. Guided tours begins at 10.30am every morning and don’t miss the noon gun being fired daily by soldiers wearing 19th century costume.
  2. Take a self-guided walk – Tasty Walks is a series of 20 self-guided walks which make the most of the very best the island has to offer. Whether you want to explore the seafront and harbours, castles and forts or take in the wildlife on a nature trail there’s certain to be a walk for you. The Wildlife Haven, a Witch’s Haunt & a Tiny Chaple walk sounds right up my alley!
  3. Take in the sights of St Peter Port – St. Peter Port is a small town consisting mostly of steep narrow streets and steps on the overlooking slopes. Take in the sights of The Royal Courthouse, the Elizabeth Cottage and the buzzing Market, Arcade and High Street before head to the Terrace Garden café for roof-top views and refreshments.
  4. La Vallette Underground Military Museum – If you and your Guernsey dating site companion are keen on history this museum offers a wide range of exhibitions, displays and information covering Guernsey’s military history, including World War One and the German Occupation of the island from 1940 to 1945 during World War Two and features various military and occupation memorabilia.
  5.  Go coasteering – A combination of extreme rockpooling and a nature trail, coasteering is all about rock-hopping, shore-scrambling, swell-riding, cave-exploring and, cliff-jumping. There are plenty of amazing trails to follow around the island. It’s best to go with an outdoor adventure company that can kit you out in everything you need (and keep you safe).
  6. Try a gin tasting experience – If you are a gin lover like me, why not take part in a tasting at the Bella Luce, the home of Wheadon’s artisan gin. Wheadon uses rock samphire foraged from the nearby cliffs, mandarin limes grown in a local glasshouse, and other carefully sourced botanicals to create perfectly balanced artisanal gins in very small batches.
  7. Learn to surf – The Guernsey Surf School is located at the north end of Vazon Bay on Guernsey’s beautiful west coast and offers all sorts of classes from beginner level for individuals or groups!
  8. Throw a few frames – The Guernsey Bowls Stadium boasts a six rink international standard stadium where visitors are always welcome. There is a lovely bar where you and your date can relax (if you’re still talking!)
  9. Get on your bike! – One of the best ways to see the island is to take a bike tour. Guernsey’s network of Ruette Tranquils’ Green lanes, Water lanes, tracks and bridleways are perfect for exploring the hidden gems the island has to offer. The different routes offer different levels of difficulty but all will take you past sights such as bunkers, Norman churches, witches, ancient chambers, splendid views and quirky houses!
  10. Make your own Candle – There are plenty of opportunities to learn in Guernsey with everything from ceramics to surfing on offer. Spend some time at Guernsey Candles where you can watch the masters at work producing stunning intricate candles. You can even make your own candle to take away with you.
