Covid-19 lockdown measures have affected all of us and some in more ways than others. A tragic amount of people have died since the pandemic began and although most countries are undergoing a vaccination program, the end is far from near.
While we are being advised to stay indoors and isolate, many are finding it difficult to cope with the unusual demands being placed on us, but there are some things you can do to relieve some of the stress:
- Follow advice
- Stay in touch
- Get outside
- Do some work
- Remain hopeful
World governing bodies are always advising what to do and it’s very important that we listen while staying in touch through any means is more important than ever. While we should isolate, we still need some outdoor time and being off work means you shouldn’t actually work but remaining hopeful is the best thing we can do.
Keep Up to Date and Play Your Part
Every day we are being informed of what is happening and any new advice measures. Current advice states to stay inside as much as we can and only go out if we need to. Social distancing measures (this page has more information) and wearing masks is the best advice when leaving our homes as is regularly washing hands.
Don’t Suffer in Silence
You don’t have to go through this alone and keeping in contact with friends and relatives can be a big help while in lockdown. The use of video calling apps such as FaceTime, Skype and Zoom are being used more than ever, but even a call or text will go far in making you feel closer to others and them to you.
Let in Some Air
Although we have been told to stay inside and save lives, walking outside our local area for exercise or to walk the dog is still permitted. Getting fresh air is vital to our general health and wellbeing and even if you don’t want to go out in public, use your backyard if you have one or even sit by an open window.
Focus on Something to Do
A lot of people are working from home at the moment but being at home doesn’t mean that you should slack off. Going about your day as if you are still at work is a great way to pass the time rather than watching daytime TV or reading magazines. Not doing work gets old quickly and you will soon get bored of doing nothing, so doing housework, organizing finances or even doing something creative like painting will help alleviate stress.
Stay Positive to Stay Negative
It’s all too easy to get depressed and desperate with everything that is currently going on. Almost 2.5 million people have died from Covid-19 which is a tragic amount of deaths that shouldn’t have happened. But despite the current arguments and debacles, vaccines are coming and even though the pandemic isn’t going to end anytime soon, it will end. Staying hopeful that the virus will eventually go away is key to beating it even if you don’t have it.
