The bathroom is perhaps the most difficult room of the house to spruce up. With almost any other room, you have the opportunity to swap out some old furniture, add some blankets to make it cosier, and even lift the room with a nice rug – put all of this in the bathroom, on the other hand, and it’s going to look centuries old.
Luckily, there are ways to make it a bit nicer even when you’re on a budget. That way, you don’t have to change everything from the tiling to the bathtub unless you’re able to afford it – and you can still enjoy the air of luxury the bathroom gives.
Here is a handful of ways to a more luxurious bathroom even when you’re on a budget. It’s not going to be for free, unfortunately, but at least you’ll be able to enjoy it without going broke for the rest of the month.
First: Keep it clean
Let’s start with the most obvious point first. A bathroom needs to be clean if it’s going to stand the chance of being luxurious and beautiful. It’s not always that easy to keep it clean always, though, and especially not when you have a big family to keep track of.
Make it a bit easier to keep neat and shiny by putting a small basket close to the sink with everything you need in order to give it a quick clean; we’re talking sponges, cloths, cleaning detergents, and something to wipe off the mirror with.
Because much of the bathroom dirt tends to manifest as dust around the sink and toothpaste stains on the mirror, it’s important to clean this off as soon as possible. That way, you won’t really notice that it’s too dirty before you give it a proper clean at the end of the week. It’s just the first step toward a more beautiful bathroom but it’s an important one to make.
Remember to involve your kids a bit in all of this as well, by the way, and tell them to tidy up after themselves after the bath. Even the those around five can help out with giving the shower doors a quick clean in order to get rid of the watermarks – and they will probably just have fun while helping out.
Next: Add some plants
Greenery, above everything, it what makes a home feel more fresh, airy, and luxurious. Plants are relatively affordable as well, by the way, and they don’t need much more than a bit of love and care a couple of times a week.
The important thing to keep in mind before you head off to buy those plants is that some of them enjoy the environment in the bathroom a bit more than others. You don’t want to bring in a plant that likes it dry as they’ll soon wither away – and your bathroom is going to look terribly sad with a half-dead plant in it.
Have a look at this article instead to learn more about the plants that like it humid rather than dry. They will brighten up your space a lot and may even help a bit when it comes to the air quality of your home. Place them near to a window, of course, and read up on how much water they need before you start to care for them.
Killing plants with love is, after all, a very common thing to do for new plant owners.
Buy some new fluffy towels
Now we need to focus on everything you can afford to buy for the bathroom in order to spruce it up. If you are able to fix up a bit more and have just a bit of money to spend, you can have a look at BBK Direct for some great bathroom ideas in terms of wall panelling and other ways to make it look more appealing. It doesn’t have to cost too much either, by the way, and will make an immense difference to the room.
When you’re on a tight budget and would like to save as much as possible, you should focus on making it feel more luxurious.
The towels you use will have a lot to say about how both you and your bathroom feels, at the end of the day. Invest in some high-quality ones, consider getting them in a crisp white to increase the feeling of luxury, and treat yourself to the softest you can find.
You might as well consider buying a new bathrobe and some slippers while you’re at it, by the way. It just makes it a lot nicer to come out of that bath on a chilly winter evening when you have a soft robe to wrap around yourself and you will definitely feel like you’re treating yourself to something fancy even though it doesn’t cost as much as fixing up your entire bathroom.
Invest in some new cosmetics
Finally, a bathroom is only as luxurious as you feel. While you should spend some time on making it look nice in there, use a few plants to brighten up the space, and keep it as shiny as possible. you will feel like it’s way more luxurious when you have a nice shelf to stack up with your favourite creams and lotions.
You might as well go ahead and get a few new ones now, by the way, as your winter skin needs a bit more care than your summer skin. Focus on getting something that’s hydrating and remember a cream for your body as well – it’s going to be just what you need when you come out of that bath.
A luxurious bathroom isn’t that difficult when you know which area to improve and what to steer clear off. There’s no point in starting on a big bathroom project if you can’t afford to finish it at the moment and it’s better to start with the small things so that you’re able to enjoy it.
Get another mirror to make it look a bit larger, invest in a few new bath bombs, and remember, above all, to keep the room clean and tidy.
