How To Merge Comfort With Interior Design

Is it too much to ask to have modern comforts that also look timeless? Maybe in the contemporary interior design industry, that isn’t such a farfetched ideal to have.

It’s been a question that many people in the industry and those interested in remodelling their own homes have been asking for a long time.

However we must realise that traditionally comfort has always been stylish. From the silk cushioning of a sofa or chair, to the wonderful Scottish Highlands sheep cotton bed sheets from previous centuries and decades.

Only the modern times have we tried to go further in style and forget that comfort means sometimes you won’t be able to have the designs you want. Not because it’s impossible as nothing is ever impossible in interior design.

But if you want to have sharp corners on a sofa, it’s usually not going to have bolstered armrests with wool. The structure is just too deep and rigid. So how could you possibly find a way to merge both comfort and style in your home?

Don’t be a slave to leather

Leather sofas are sublime. There’s simply no denying that a fantastic high quality leather sofa will wow your guests. The touch and feel will be of supreme quality if you buy in the high end styles.

However it’s not practical all the time and in fact it’s the battle that doesn’t have an end in sight. It’s cold and uninviting during the autumn, but sticks to you like glue during summer. There seems to be this strange obsession that we have in today’s world with leather sofas.

We don’t need to always have leather. There are other options. Take for example a fabric sofa that is bolstered by a strong frame but is stuffed with foam. Instead of wool foam is now used in sofas made for comfort. The fabric is a blend of cotton, wool and nylon. These are just some of the options for material you have.

Contemporary frame and cloud

Bed frames are perhaps one of the most spectacular areas in which contemporary design has truly taken over. There used to be bed frames that would be made out of black walnut and mahogany. Nowadays they are made out of stainless steel and oak.

These new designs are simplistic which means that for an average price you have much more room to play with. Ultimately they are changing bed sizes as king size is no longer truly king size and is having to literally increase in dimensions to still hold this title.

The Silentnight Mattresses are made out of modern latex giving them the feeling like laying on a cloud. Incredibly light yet allows you to sink in and lay your weight evenly. Situated in a modern bed frame, it gives you the chance to fully stretch out and have a deep sleep without hitting the edges or having your feet hang off the edge.

Modern homes have the chance to interject new or even tried and test philosophies with even more options than before. You don’t need a leather sofa, a high quality fabric sofa might convert you to a different way of thinking.

This is such a great post. I hate leader sofas, especially how cold it is in the winter and how uncomfortable it is to sit in the summer.

Absolutely love the bed frame in the image. Still addicted to my leather sofas, though. Can’t see me trading them for fabric anytime soon. 🙂

Yaasss as always you gave me a good read. I absolutely love Interior design talk. I’ve never really been a fan of leather 😝. I’m actually designing the interior of my new house right now. 1st thing on my list is living room furniture. Baby steps. Great post!

As we’re going to be moving into a new house sometime next year this is something I’ve been thinking of lots as I want things that are practical and will last but look nice as well x
