I have to admit that I am a bit of a series junkie. I actually prefer when I am watching an older series because I can then sit and watch episode after episode when I am chilling in the evening or the weekend. My husband and I refer to this as ‘mainlining’ a series – a medical term for injecting a drug intravenously – no need for breaks between injections.
At the moment I am sulking when it comes to TV because my parents recently got a huge 65 inch beast of an LG flat screen which is so big it almost feels like you’re in a cinema when you’re watching it. Personally, I’d love to get my hands on an Oled 4K Tv Panasonic. So, yes, I am sulking because I am jealous.
Despite the lack of a shiny new TV I always have a few series on the go; whether older ones I am mainlining or newer ones I am forced to watch at the rate of one episode per week (boo!). These are my favourite 5 series that I am watching right now.
Chicago Fire
Chicago Fire is an American action-drama television series set at Firehouse 51 and follows the firefighters and paramedics working there including Truck Company 81, Engine Company 51, Battalion 25, Squad Company 3 and Ambulance 61.
Episodes are a mix of emergency responses and rescues along with compelling personal dramas of the cast of characters. One of the reasons I am enjoying the series is one of the main characters is portrayed by Jesse Spencer whom I loved in House.
Save Money: Lose Weight
Since October 2017 I have been working hard to lose weight – I have lost around 22kg/ 50lbs so far, so when a program comes on TV that talks about various methods to shift extra pounds I am always interested to see what diets are trendy.
Save Money: Lose Weight explores the current top diets doing the rounds by recruiting members of the public to try them out and comparing how much weight their guinea pigs lose vs. how much the diet costs. I find it interesting to see how people get on and how successful they are. If you’re looking to lose some weight I recommend it.
The Rookie
This is the second of three series I am watching right now based around the emergency services. If you love Nathan Fillion in Castle (like I did) then I think you’ll equally love this series. In The Rookie, Nathan Fillion plays John Nolan, a 40-year-old man who after managing to distract bank robbers so the Police can arrive on scene decides to join the LAPD.
As their oldest rookie, he’s met with scepticism from those who see him as just a walking midlife crisis. In the weekly episodes, we see how Nolan and his fellow rookies get on tackling crime in Los Angeles as well as learning more about the characters and their complicated lives.
Ramsay’s 24 hours to hell and back
Gordon Ramsay is one of those guys that you love to hate and although sometimes he does go too far I just can’t get enough of his TV series, particularly Ramsay’s Kitchen Nightmares and Hotel Hell.
In this new reality television series, Ramsay’s 24 hours to hell and back, Gordon Ramsay and his team take on struggling restaurants across the USA when he is allocated only 24 hours to redecorate interiors, modernise menus and motivate staff, culminating in a relaunch of the restaurant with a grand re-opening. If you’re a fan of Gordon then I can’t recommend this series enough.
Station 19
The third and final series based on emergency services is Station 19 – another show depicting the lives and rescues of the Fireman and women at Station 19 in Seattle, from the makers of Grey’s Anatomy.
I was drawn into this series by Jaina Lee Ortiz who plays a lead role. I enjoyed watching Jaina Lee Ortiz in the Police series Rosewood which she acted in from 2015-2017. Grey’s Anatomy is another series I was really into recently so I love seeing familiar character cameos in Station 19.
What series are you watching at the moment?
station 19 sounds really good,. My favourite programme to watch is Casualty, but I prefer to watch real live emergency shows
I’m glued to the last season of Game of Thrones at the moment
I’ve actually not seen any of these. We’ve just finished the umbrella academy which I loved, and I’m watching Ru Pauls Drag Race each week x
I love a good Ramsay show, but couldn’t get on with his newest one sadly. The weight loss program sounds interesting! I might give that a try.
I am definitely going to have to check these shows out. I’m actually not really watching anything series-wise at the moment – I’ve been looking for new shows to watch so this is a very timely post!
Great selection there! Me and my husband are currently watching the Gordon Ramsey one too and think its fab! I find it so hard to really get into a series so it has to catch me within a few episodes! Will definitely check out some of your suggestions.
Station 19 and Chicago fire sound like something I would enjoy. I love posts like this as I often finish a binge with nothing else lined up which I’m sure you will agree is just devastating.
I’ve not watched any of these. Ive just finished watching The Bay and I’m enjoying the Widow too
My husband and I ‘mainline’ series’ too!
I don’t tend to watch much TV and opt for Netflix or films instead, but I will definitely have to give these a go! I have soooo much free time at the moment!
