Play games online together
During lockdown dating became tricky, because we weren’t allowed to meet people in person online gaming was one of the only options available for having fun with friends from a distance. Games like Animal Crossing became huge! Even though restrictions are now lifting and we’re allowed to see people in person you can still enjoy playing online games together as a way to spend time getting to know each other and bond!
Go to a gaming convention
Conventions are a great way sharing a passion and there are plenty of gaming conventions! EGX (previously named Eurogamer Expo), the premier video game show in the UK, is a trade fair for video games organised by Gamer Network and held annually in the United Kingdom. EGX is taking place from 7-10 October, 2021 and will include all sorts of panels and exhibitors to enjoy.
Have a retro night
Kick it old school with a retro game night at home! Grab snacks, drinks and your favourite Vintage or Classic Video Games think Pac Man, Space Invaders, Tomb Raider, Spyro and Donkey Kong. You’ll be swept up in the nostalgia and will prompt some great stories about your childhood which will let you get to know each other better.
Gaming trivia quiz
Video games make for excellent trivia! With with a multitude of games and consoles to consider it will be fun to put together the questions let alone quzzing your date to see who knows the most about gaming. Make it even more fun by throwing in a prize or trophy!
Escape Room
I have to admit I have only done one escape room but it was super fun! Escape room solving is just like playing a game – find and decipher riddles and clues with your date in order to solve mysteries. It get the blood and adrenaline pumping.
Gaming themed Movie Night
There are many, many movies which are based on video games or include references to video games. Examples include the Tomb Raider movies, the new Jumanji movies, Tron, Wreck it Ralph, Doom, Mortal Kombat, Resident Evil and one of my favourites Ready Player One. Grab some popcorn, some chocolate bars and some beers for a gaming themed movie night.
Visit an arcade
I used to love playing the games at the arcade in my favourite bowling alley once all the pins had been knocked down. Why not take your date to a local arcade and play some games together? The buzzing atmosphere will make for an excellent night out with any gamers.
Board Game
Although you might be a lover of all things on a screen why not give your eyes a rest for the evening and break out some old school board games? I recently rediscovered Cludo and it was fun reacquainting myself with the game. Think Monopoly, Scrabble or Battleship. Gamers dates don’t have to be just focused on video games!
Scavenger Hunt
Just like an Escape Room a scavenger hunt is a great way to exercise body and mind. Make sure you plan your route carefully. If you want your date to follow clues, create the list of hints and the coordinating locations. Why not have the hunt end up with a picnic in a park, dinner at a favourite restaurant or at a local arcade?
Put the screens down!
Just because you are your date are lovers of video games it doesn’t mean everything you do has to be on a screen! Why not plan a weekend away? Glamping is a great way to avoid technology for a while. Take the time to talk to your date about their other hobbies and favourite things to do. It is bound to bring you closer.
