First Thanksgiving with his family? What to wear

November 7, 2024 in Fashion - Micaela

Thanksgiving is approaching quickly, and you’re probably already making plans for it. If you’re in a relatively new relationship, or this is the first time you’ve been invited to your partner’s family Thanksgiving dinner, this might feel like an exciting, but overwhelming invitation. Whether it’s the first time you’re meeting their family, or you’re more comfortable with them, your Thanksgiving outfit for this celebration has to be on point. In this article, we have some suggestions for outfits to wear at your boyfriend’s family Thanksgiving dinner so that you can feel stylish and comfortable while enjoying your time. Read along and get ready for all the gratitude and love of this holiday.

Girly but comfy

The first outfit suggestion we have for you is one that will keep you comfortable while still giving you a very elegant vibe. For this one, you need a midi skirt in a neutral colour, maybe something like brown or black and a nice textured sweater. For the sweater, we’re thinking of an Aran sweater like the ones here: https://www.gaelsong.com/prod_detail_list/apparel-knitwear in a light colour, to contrast the skirt. With the flowy skirt and a structured textured sweater, this outfit will look very chic and original and will be perfect for making a good impression. It is also very comfortable, allowing you to move freely and stay cosy without overheating. Tuck your sweater in the skirt for a more defined waist, or let it fall naturally for a more edgy look. You can accessorize the look with some fuzzy socks, gold jewellery or even a bow in your hair.

Elegant and stylish

Next up, if this celebration takes place in a more elegant setting, or it’s quite a big deal in your partner’s family, we have the outfit for you. For a more elevated Thanksgiving look, our suggestion is to go for a velvet dress in vibrant colour. Velvet has this luxurious look to it that makes it perfect for special occasions, and velvet dresses are usually comfortable as well. Think about an emerald green velvet dress, a flowy one that ends above your knees and some delicate jewellery pieces to go with it. You can add a pair of heels, or just go for plain boots, as the dress brings elegance to the outfit anyways. Other colours that would be both elegant and perfect for the occasion are dark red, royal blue or even black if you want to keep it simple.

Casual with a twist

We know not everyone makes a big deal about Thanksgiving, so if that’s the case for your partner’s family, this last suggestion is for you. A more relaxed Thanksgiving outfit has to still be appropriate for the holiday, but without being too much. And for that, a simple pair of jeans and a shirt will do the job, and together with the right accessories, this outfit will be all you need. Take a plain shirt in pastel colour and add it to a comfy and simple pair of jeans. Don’t even think about ripped jeans, or any other patterned ones, as they are not really appropriate for this celebration. Make sure your shirt is ironed for a polished look, even if it’s casual. To add a little twist to this outfit, you can accessorize with a scarf around your neck and some gold earrings. The scarf is a way to add some style and originality to a simple outfit, but even without it, this look will get you through the night.
