When you have been living in a property for a little while, you might not notice the little things that could be done to make it look new and fresh. You might not even
However, if you step back and look at the space you’re living in objectively, you will much more easily be able to see that there are things that should be done if you want to give your home a more modern, perhaps even more comfortable look and feel.
If you know that something needs to be done but you’re not sure what, here are some clever home improvement ideas to freshen everything up.
1 Add Colour
Although it’s clear that the trend for decorating homes has been neutral colours for some time now, that doesn’t mean you can’t add a splash of colour here and there. In fact, doing so will quickly freshen up your home and give it a much more interesting look.
Adding colour to an otherwise neutral room is quick and simple; use cushions and throws on your sofas, or have bright curtains and a matching rug. Colourful prints on the wall also work, as do brightly painted radiators from warmrooms.co.uk.
If you’re going to add colour, go for bold, bright shades, not pastels, as they won’t make a lot of difference to the overall effect.
2 Declutter
A home that has lots of your possessions lying around with nowhere particular for them to be kept will also look messy and uncomfortable.
The simple act of decluttering (which could involve throwing away, selling, or donating items that you no longer want or need, or finding a place for them within the home where they are no longer taking up any unnecessary space) will give your home the feeling of more space, and it will look a lot fresher and more welcoming.
3 New Lighting
Your lighting may not be something you have thought about much – the bulbs and lampshades are installed, and you flick a switch to turn them on. Most people wouldn’t be able to describe what their light fixtures look like if they were asked to, even if they sit or sleep under them for a number of hours a day.
Changing your light fitting to something more interesting, modern, and certainly more memorable can be a good way to freshen up your home. Whatever you choose is going to potentially be the centrepiece of the room, so choose wisely, and ensure that the bulbs you pick are suitable too – not too bright when you want them to be soft and vice versa.
4 Clean Your Carpets
All that walking around on your carpets will take its toll, and they will become dirty quickly. The problem is, it’s not always easy to spot this. Hire an industrial carpet cleaner, a professional to do the work for you, or change your carpets completely, and the difference will be astounding. Fresh, clean carpets will make a big difference to the look of your home.
5 New Kitchen Or Bathroom
There are two rooms in your home that will look more dated and more in need of freshening up than any other; your kitchen and your bathroom. You can choose to do as much or as little as you want to, either completely ripping out your old fittings and replacing them, or simply changing smaller elements to make the rooms look fresher.
