If you have a passion for fashion you may want to start your own clothing line. If you have the drawings and the sketches all ready to go, you could be the next Halston, Vera Wang, or Yves Saint Laurent. Starting your own clothing line will take a lot of hard work. It will take charisma, determination, and an unbreakable spirit. Here are a few steps you can take to start your own clothing line.
Get to Drawing
The first thing you are going to need is your designs. Your designs are your creations and your ideas, and they are what is going to go on the backs of the people who buy your products. Decide what clothing you want to make and then start sketching it all out. Whether it’s sports clothing, high fashion, casual, or a night on the town, sketch it out.
Determine if you want to create for men or women or both and sketch it out. Once you have your full portfolio of your first fashion line, you will have the ultimate calling card to finding investors and piquing the interest of potential buyers.
Create Your Brand and Your Name
What do you want to call your new fashion company? Find a name that speaks to what you want to create or what speaks to who you are. Using your very own name is spectacular, but who are you and how are you going to package yourself?
Sit down and determine how you want the world to see you and then you can start coming up with a logo or catchy name if you’re not using your own. Once you get your branding down, it will make your clothing pop off the page and come to life because the brand will make everything you create more three dimensional.
Manufacture Some Test Pieces
If you don’t sew and want to have a more professional touch on your test pieces, send your ideas to a manufacturer who will use an industrial embroidery machine to create your ideas. With a machine of this caliber they can make several copies of one piece or every piece in your line. Once you have those test pieces in hand, you will be able to make corrections or adjustments where you feel they need to be made, and then you can put together your fashion show.
Let the Models Walk
Put together a fashion show for potential buyers or clients. With all of your test pieces fine tuned, you can find the perfect models to wear them and show them off. You can either put your collection in a local fashion show, a fashion contest, or a private show if you have investors who are curious about your luxurious fashion line. This is the perfect way to get financial backing and to turn up the curiosity on who you are and what you are able to do. This will be the beginning of your team that will help you continue to create.
