For those of us who are single, lockdown as been a tough time, being unable to go out and socialise, or meet up with people we have been chatting with via dating websites or apps resulting in what had been called the ‘sex ban’. For those with partners that they don’t live with I can only imagine it has been even harder having had to spend the last few months apart.
In the TV program ‘Sex in Lockdown’ which aired last night, 2000 people took a survey in regards to their sex life during lockdown and it revealed some interesting (slightly worrying?) facts.
- People have been using more sex toys during this time with sales up 126% compared with the same time last year. with 40% of people have used a toy. 1 in 5 have admitted to being turned on by domestic items with the spatula coming out on top!
- Some people are taking a more creative approach using at-home kits to make a mould of their private parts which is made into a sex toy, which is then sent onto their partner.
- Ann Summers has seen a ridiculous 900% increase in the sale of sexy outfits such as tuxedo bunny and hospital hotty nurse.
- 1 in 6 people admitted to being more experimental with sex during lockdown including 51% of people trying out role play.
- 84% of people have tried new sexual positions during lockdown with the top 3 being spooning, doggie style and missionary.
- One company has reported sales of sex toys has increased by 57%.
- Technology has played its part with sexy video calls, sexting and interactive sex toys which can be controlled from afar having been popular.
For most of lockdown we had been told not to get within 2m of anyone outside of our households but on June 10th there was an update which many newspapers describe as the ‘end of the Lockdown sex ban in England’ with an announcement coming from the Prime Minister that a new ‘support bubble’ system would be coming into play.
These days finding love online is the norm with websites such as cambridgeshiresexsite.co.uk and manchestersexsite.co.uk offering the potential for sex in Manchester but of course, up until this latest update we weren’t able to meet up with other singles during the Coronavirus pandemic.
However, this new system launched on the 10th June now means that 2 separate households can join to form a ‘support bubble’ and won’t need to follow the social distancing rule. This is good news for singles because it means being able to hug, share meals, hang out indoors, kiss stay the night and even have sex.
However, this doesn’t apply to everyone – only people living in a single-adult household (or an adult living with people under 18) will be able to meet each other in their homes. So a couple with one person living alone could finally see their partner again and join up with their household. Unfortunately, if you both live with other people you won’t be able to meet and have to stick to the original rules.
If you’re unable to see your partner because you don’t fall into the correct category why not explore something a bit more creative? Everyone else has!
