A couple of weeks ago I celebrated my 32nd birthday and as part of the celebrations I decided that I wanted to indulge in some vegan-friendly cupcakes as this year I decided to change from long-term vegetarian to vegan.
I did some research and discovered a bakery called Vegan Antics, based in Gravesend in Kent not too far away. Vegan Antics ethos is to make treats that are suitable for everybody, especially Vegans and those with food intolerance’s & allergies. They focus on making a range of baked goods that are dairy free, egg free, lactose-free, wheat free, gluten free, nut free, soy free & sugar-free!
I was thrilled to discover that Vegan Antics is a 100% Vegan Bakery which means all of their products are Vegan as standard (yay!). The bakery has a huge range of sweet treats including cupcakes, brownies, shortbreads, cookies, flapjacks, rocky road and more, all of which can be ordered online and delivered or collected.
After studying their website I decided to choose a dozen “What’s Your Flavour Cupcakes” which allows you to design your own cupcakes including the flavour of sponge and icing as well as the type of icing design on top! I chose funfetti sponge (vanilla with colourful sprinkles baked right in), salted caramel icing in a swirl design.
I decided to have the cupcakes posted to me and they arrived when they were supposed to and in great condition thanks to the packaging which covered the icing on top to stop it from getting smooched which I thought was ingenious.
So, how did they taste? When I’m trying vegan products I haven’t tried before I am always a little suspicious, however, I was delighted to discover that the cupcakes were light and fluffy with a good balance of sweetness and a surprisingly buttery icing on top! I honestly don’t think that anyone would even know that they are dairy and egg free unless told otherwise.
I would certainly recommend Vegan Antics to anyone looking for vegan or allergy-free baked goods and award these vegan cupcakes 5 out of 5. I can’t wait until I have a good excuse to order some more from this bakery!
