Last night I was lucky enough to have attended the opening night of Rock of Ages at The Orchard Theatre Dartford as part of the show’s UK and Ireland tour. The global smash hit show Rock of Ages will be at The Orchard from 20 – 24 November 2018 having had extensive runs in London’s West End, on Broadway and in Las Vegas, the show has also been made into a star-studded Hollywood movie.
Rock of Ages is a hilarious musical comedy and love story jam-packed with over 25 classic rock anthems which will have you headbanging, clapping and air-guitaring along with the show. The show set in LA on the iconic sunset strip features tracks from Def Leppard, Journey, Scorpions, Poison, Foreigner, Guns N’ Roses, Pat Benatar, Joan Jett, Bon Jovi, Twisted Sister, Whitesnake, REO Speedwagon, and others.
The story follows aspiring singer Sherrie Christian who hops off a bus from the Midwest and immediately finds herself in trouble in the big city when her bag is stolen. Coming to her rescue is Drew, a bar-back at the legendary club the Bourbon Room who dreams of being a rock star but usually finds himself clearing up the mess left by the patrons.
With Drew’s help, Sherrie finds a job (and love?) at the club but a misunderstanding involving rock god Stacee Jaxx threatens to tear them apart. Drew is approached by a manager who seems to have his best interests at heart, but does he?
When Sherrie finds herself without employment and is taken in by Justice Charlier, the owner of the Venus ‘Gentleman’s Club’ will she end up as just another lonely girl dancing on a pole to make a living? Can Sherrie and Drew get through their troubles to finally find happiness? Do dreams really come true?
Meanwhile, the sunset strip is under threat of redevelopment by a greedy Mayor and persuasive developers who want to tear down the iconic rock n roll clubs to build wholesome shops. Can the Bourbon Room escape the bulldozers?
We were impressed with the production of the show with fantastic scenery, rocking outfits and top tracks played by the awesome live band including We Built This City, The Final Countdown, Here I Go Again, Can’t Fight this Feeling and I Want To Know What Love Is as the story unfolds.
We would certainly recommend Rock of Ages to anyone who wants to enjoy a night of laughs, love and Rock n Roll! We award the show 5 out of 5 stars.
