There’s nothing I like more than to treat myself to an icy drink when the weather picks up in the summer months and this year I have had the chance to fall in love with iced matcha.
I have made my own at home in the past (see my recipe here), but it is always fun to enjoy something that someone else has made so I was excited to try the Iced Matcha Latte from Good Mood Matcha on my recent visit to Spitalfields.
Good Mood Matcha is a matcha bar serving up classic drinks and seasonal specials, inspired by the health benefits of a daily matcha tea. If you didn’t already know matcha is made up of finely milled Japanese green tea leaves, it contains a high amount of antioxidants and is a natural mood booster as well as making a refreshing hot or cold drink!
It was these health-boosting qualities that led Good Mood Matcha’s creator, Max Cheong to set out on a mission to source the best quality leaves available, finding an independent, family run tea farm in Uji in Kyoto.
The company has gone the extra mile to ensure that the matcha is ethical, sustainable, empowering and all round good. Since then Max has worked closely with the farm to produce their exclusive Good Mood blends of ceremonial grade matcha.
Good Mood Matcha’s Matcha bar can be found in the Spitalfields Market and serves up classic matcha beverages such as their Flat Green and Iced Matcha Latte, as well as seasonal specials, such as Matcha Lemonade and Iced Watermelon Matcha!
I ordered the Iced Matcha Latte when I visited and was fascinated watching the server mix the matcha powder with my chosen plant milk, amazed at the vibrant green colour of the tea which was poured over ice for the perfect summer cooler. The Iced Matcha Latte has a subtle grassy flavour which is pleasant and the overall drink is certainly refreshing.
I would certainly recommend popping into Good Mood Matcha if you’re in the Spitalfields area to pick up a healthy energy boosting drink.
