There’s no denying that money is important. We need it to pay our bills, keep a roof over our head and eat. However, so many of us limit ourselves and don’t live life to the fullest just because we don’t have lots of disposable income.
As long as our essential outgoings are covered, you can still live an interesting and exciting life without lots of cash. Here are some examples inexpensive yet fun things you can do in your spare time.
Enjoy nature
The world is a playground- getting outside and enjoying nature is free, it keeps you fit and it can be really rewarding. Walk through meadows, along beaches, visit parks and gardens. You could go on hikes or bike rides- take a camera or a pair of binoculars to go wildlife watching. If you have children you could print off a free worksheet from Pinterest and go on a nature trail.
You could meditate while watching the sunset, or lie on a grassy bank and watch the clouds make shapes. Appreciate nature, getting outside more will boost your mood and improve your health. There are all kinds of new places waiting to be discovered. So don’t sit on the sofa in a sulk, claiming you’re bored because you don’t have any money!
Take a trip to somewhere new
Travel really doesn’t have to be expensive. Services like the Megabus, for example, can get you up and down the country for less than five pounds. If you take your own picnic and water you won’t need to spend money on food and could go an explore a new place every few weeks if you wanted to.
Sites like Tiqy have plenty of tours available, many of them cheap or free which gives you something to do when you arrive. It’s a chance to learn more about a place and what a fantastic way to expand your mind.
Make the most of free activities
Whether you’re traveling to a new place or staying closer to home, chances are there are all kinds of free or very cheap things to do that you’ve overlooked. Museums, for example, are often free, they’re interesting and educational for people of all ages. Farms are also usually free or very cheap to enter, and observing animals is always a fun way to spend a morning or afternoon.
Cathedrals, monasteries and other religious buildings are often open to the public and are free to look around, and things like fetes, fairs and markets are wonderful to walk around. With Christmas around the corner, these things will all be springing to life in the next few weeks.
Start up a free hobby
Some hobbies can be expensive, if you need lots of tools and equipment as well as tuition to get started, it can run into hundreds of pounds. However, there are so many hobbies out there that cost next to nothing to get started and can really add value to your life. Blogging, for example, will only require you to have a computer and an internet connection, which chances are you will already have.
It’s a wonderful way to express yourself and improve your skills, and in time it could even earn you some money. Baking is another fun hobby, and some basic ingredients needn’t cost much.
