Owing and maintaining a restaurant is a tough task altogether. More so if it is contemporary one infused with all the modern-day elements. Your menu list needs to be different and innovative; you need a team of efficient and talented chefs to make great food. Cleanliness needs to be maintained. However, on the whole, an important feature of a hotel is the décor. Nowadays the theme of a restaurant is no longer governed only by the menu. The hotel environment is also important. Just as the culinary service and high levels of hospitality are most important aspects, the design and the décor have also emerged as an equally relevant measure of success.

Good décor immediately puts the diner to ease while having his food with the surroundings. Imagine if only the food and the services were good in a very dull and boring ambience would you like to go there again. You have to equally pay attention to the design of your restaurant.

If yours is a contemporary hotel, you can add something quirky and at the same time aesthetic designs to accentuate the overall look of your place. Moreover, what can be more beautiful than adding the Indian aesthetics than anything else?

Indian styles are the most eye-catching, novel and the most colourful styles to work with. Due to the extensive spread of culture covering the expanse of our country, Indian designs have many elements to dabble with. However, not everything can be used altogether at once else it will make your surrounding look tacky and odd. Clever use of colours, artefacts, upholstery and some decorative pieces is the way go. Since you are merging traditional with contemporary care should also be taking so that both the different types of designs complement each other.

We list down some of these

  1. Vibrant colors-Bright and varied colours are the epitomai of Indian designs. However, too many colours can create a visual chaos. Using a wide pallet of colours is fine but you should use them in such a way so that they will complement the surroundings. So to avoid this always opt for natural colours or earth tones like yellow, deep browns, or dark oranges for your walls and floors. Subtle tones like sky blues and light greens can be used for pillows and chairs. A bi-colour theme is always a safe option. A neutral shade can always be used as the base colour since it is the best way to go for and use pops of peppy and bright colours for accents.
  2. Solid Wood furniture-solid wood furniture instantly beautifies any décor. This décor is a reflection of skilled Indian craftsmanship which adds a dash of traditional flavour in your design. However be careful to use in areas where it will look beautiful and artistic and not just another piece of furniture. The exotic wood of rosewood, teak wood and ebony are the most preferred types.
  3. Handspun Fabrics-India is historically very famous for its handspun fabrics. They can be used in some innovative ways to decorate. They can be used as curtains for windows. It will look great and instantly add an Indian feel to the overall design. Fabrics are also an amazing way give an extra edge to your furniture. Traditional fabrics like silk for decorating your centrepieces or for cushions.
  4. Different patterns-Patterns are very prominent in Indian culture. If you carefully observe you can see patterns in temples, on sarees, bed sheets etc. Similarly, you can use an intricate pattern on your wall hangings, pillows, and tablecloths to instantly add an Indian look to your décor.
  5. Handicrafts-These are the items which you can easily put on your tables to add an aesthetic look. Since India is a land of a variety of handicrafts, you add them to your restaurant. Some of the popular ones are clay pots; block printed linen which you can use them as tablecloths, unique art trays which you can display on the tables. Meenakari wooden craft articles which are a traditional craft of Jaipur also look very beautiful.
  6. Paintings-India is known for its wide canvas of different paintings. However, each painting differs in style, type and the colours used. Typical Indian paintings include murals, Madhubani paintings, miniature painting and the Tanjore painting to name a few. Each style of painting is unique and different. Paintings can make for impressive wall art and can instantly glam up a dull wall.
  7. Accessories-Like art how you choose the accessories is also very important. Traditional antiques, candles, statues can instantly create a warm environment in your hotel space. Clay urns, Ganesh statues or Buddha statues are very famous accessories.
  8. Exotic Lightning-Intimate lightning creates an atmosphere of relaxation and tranquillity. It is very important that lightning is flattering to both people and the food, so the patrons feel comfortable while dining. You can use Crystal hangings, Moroccan hangings, chandeliers to add that instant Indian feel to the place.
  9. Green Therapy-As they say nature can not only elevate your mood but create an atmosphere of calmness around you. You can place artificial flower arrangements on the tables of your restaurant. Silk tulips look extremely beautiful and classy. You can place artificial palm leaves in traditional clay pots at the entrance of your hotel. Any artificial flower arrangement should be done with care, and with precision else, you will end up messing the entire décor. Since your theme is Indian you should be careful in choosing the right kinds of flowers.
  10. Rugs-Rugs are atypical to the Indian tradition. You will find a rug in almost every household. They instantly add a get up to your room making it look glamorous at the same time give a homely feel. There are different types of rugs available. For e.g.-embroidered rugs, knotted rugs, hand-woven rugs. So among these hand-knotted rugs are best suited so that they can handle the huge number of visitors to your place.
