what im watching this month

This month I am starting up some new post series that I hope will run on a monthly basis to give you more of a peek into what I’ve been up to, what I’ve been reading and watching etc. In this post I am going to give you a rundown of the TV series I am currently loving!

Timeless Season 2

For anyone who loved the computer game Where in Time is Carmen Sandiego Timeless is really the show for you. In season 1 we are introduced to the characters that work at a technology company where a time machine has been built but stolen in the shocking first episode by people who want to change history! Luckily, we discover there is a second, prototype time machine the ‘lifeboat’ which our main characters use to chase the criminals through time, putting history back together again.

There are lots of twists in both the first and second series which I find exciting but not too complicated so that I can actually follow along. I also really love that we are immersed in history and get to learn about times in the past that we might not know much about. All of the characters have full backstories which are brought to light in their daily struggle to defeat the criminals whilst keeping consequences in the present to a minimum. We meet all manner of famous personalities from the past and are embroiled in the battle against the mysterious organisation known as Rittenhouse.

Station 19

There are always tonnes of cop-related shows out there so when I discovered Station 19, a drama set in a Seattle Fire House, I wanted to give it a go. We follow the day to day adventures and bravery of the Fire Crew working out of Station 19 including Andrea “Andy” Herrera, one of the two Lieutenants and the daughter of Captain Pruitt Herrera, who due to ill health has to spend time away from the Station and rely on Andy and the other Lieutenant Jack Gibson (who have a strained romance going on) to run the show.

The two Lieutenants are in competition to replace the Captain and take alternative shifts to prove who is the best candidate. This show is packed full of thrilling Fire Fighting with all manner of incidents occurring from apartment fires to hazardous chemical spills and liquid Nitrogen mishaps which test the Station 19 Crew. I have quickly gotten into this show after only 3 episodes and look forward to watching it every week.

Mercy Street

I have just started watching Mercy Street, an American period medical drama set during the Civil War. Mercy Street follows the story of the Doctors and Nurses working at the Mansion House Hospital in Alexandria, Virginia which had previously been a Hotel run and owned by the Confederate supporting Southern Green family. Alexandria has recently come under the control of the Union Army and the town is rife political tension. The series was inspired by memoirs and letters of actual doctors and female nurse volunteers at Mansion House Hospital!

The main characters are two volunteer nurses Mary, a Unionist who takes care of the Union Soldiers at the Hospital and the eldest daughter of the Green family Emma who has Southern sympathies who takes it upon herself to nurse the few wounded Confederates who end up at Mansion House. We also follow the other employees of the Hospital as well as a number of freed slaves who live in the town despite the racial tension. This is another series I have quickly really gotten into. I am enjoying the twists and turns the characters go through along with the medical side of the stories.

What are you enjoying on the TV at the moment?
